Reeled in the Thrill: Bass and Wiper Action Abounds on Rough River Lake
It was a beautiful day on the water at Rough River Lake in Breckinridge County, Kentucky as I welcomed Donald for our 6-Hour Rough River Lake Fishing Charter. May is a prime time for fishing these central Kentucky waters, with the bass and hybrid striped bass (wiper) really getting active as the weather warms up.
We got set up with a variety of techniques - jigging, trolling, baitcasting, heavy tackle, and light tackle - to cover different depths and target the various species in the lake. The partly cloudy skies and light rain that cleared later in the day made for perfect fishing conditions, and the water was in great shape as we headed out.
It didn't take long before the action heated up. Donald hooked into a feisty Wiper that put up a fantastic fight, stripping line and making some aerial acrobatics before we were able to get it in the boat. Shortly after, he followed that up with a nice Largemouth Bass that fell for a jig we were working along a submerged ledge. The bite stayed strong throughout the day, and we had a blast constantly switching up our presentations to stay on the fish.
